Mexico City, January 11, 2025 – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Mexico are enhancing their trade and investment relations, focusing on fostering partnerships between private sectors and business communities in both nations.
Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, led discussions during an official visit to Mexico City, where he met senior Mexican officials and business leaders to explore opportunities for collaboration and new partnerships.
Accompanied by Salem Rashid Al Owais, UAE Ambassador to Mexico, Dr. Al Zeyoudi engaged in bilateral meetings with Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, Minister of Economy. Their discussions centered on strategies to expand non-oil trade and enhance cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.
The UAE-Mexico non-oil trade has seen remarkable growth, increasing by 20.8% in 2023 to reach $2.6 billion, compared to $2.1 billion in 2022. This upward trend continued through the first ten months of 2024, with trade volumes reaching $2.2 billion—a 1% increase over the same period in 2023.
Dr. Al Zeyoudi highlighted the commitment of both nations to boosting private-sector partnerships in key areas such as agriculture, industry, services, infrastructure, and tourism. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening supply chains to support mutual economic growth.
Speaking about the evolving economic ties, Dr. Al Zeyoudi remarked:
“The continuous growth in non-oil trade between the UAE and Mexico underscores the immense potential for new partnerships. By leveraging our business communities, we can unlock further opportunities across numerous sectors, driving mutual prosperity.”
During his visit, Dr. Al Zeyoudi met with influential Mexican leaders, including Francisco Cervantes, President of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Mexico (CONCAMIN), to explore ways to enhance private-sector relations. He also held talks with José de Jesús Rodríguez Cárdenas, President of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism, to discuss promising areas for collaboration and investment opportunities in both markets.
Additionally, Dr. Al Zeyoudi engaged with top Mexican business representatives to identify new avenues for deeper economic cooperation, further solidifying the UAE’s commitment to strengthening ties with Mexico in line with the ambitious economic goals of both nations.
The visit marks a pivotal step in advancing trade and investment relations, reinforcing the UAE and Mexico’s shared vision for sustainable growth and economic integration.
