Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Paraguay has reached another important milestone in the expansion of its agricultural exports after receiving official authorization from the United Arab Emirates to export Paraguayan poultry meat to the Emirati market.
The authorization was confirmed by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, following intensive diplomatic and technical efforts led by H.E. Carolin Konther López, Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay to the United Arab Emirates.
The authorization follows a series of high-level technical meetings during which Paraguayan authorities presented comprehensive documentation demonstrating the country’s strict sanitary controls, its internationally recognized production standards, and its commitment to food safety.
The announcement came a few weeks before the recent official visit to Asunción by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, whose mission aimed at strengthening the rapidly expanding economic partnership between the two countries.
During the visit, President Santiago Peña welcomed Minister Al Zeyoudi and the Emirati delegation, accompanied by Ms. Saghira Al Ahbabi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Paraguay. Minister Al Zeyoudi conveyed greetings from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates; from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai; and from His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court.
President Peña reaffirmed Paraguay’s commitment to deepening cooperation in trade and investment with the United Arab Emirates and emphasized that both nations possess strategic advantages that can significantly increase bilateral trade, attract investment, and strengthen long-term economic collaboration.
A Strategic Achievement for Paraguay’s Poultry Industry
The opening of the United Arab Emirates market represents a significant opportunity for Paraguay’s poultry sector. The United Arab Emirates is one of the largest food importers in the Middle East and serves as a regional distribution hub for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), facilitating access to neighbouring markets throughout the region.
This authorization reflects growing international confidence in Paraguay’s agricultural production and reinforces the country’s reputation as a reliable supplier of high-quality food products that meet stringent international health standards.
Expanding Opportunities Across the Gulf
Demand for premium poultry products continues to rise across the Gulf region, driven by population growth, tourism, and an expanding hospitality sector. With the United Arab Emirates serving as a gateway to regional trade, Paraguayan exporters are now ideally positioned to establish long-term trade partnerships throughout the Middle East.
Minister Al Zeyoudi described Paraguay as an important economic partner of the United Arab Emirates in South America and highlighted the country’s potential to contribute to food security, economic diversification, and more resilient global supply chains.
“We hope to take our economic relations with Paraguay and the Mercosur countries to new heights that support sustainable development goals, strengthen the resilience of supply chains, and consolidate the UAE’s position as a global bridge for trade and investment between the East and the West,” he said during the Business Forum.
It is worth noting that, since Ambassador Carolin Konther López assumed the leadership of the diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi, bilateral relations have intensified and are at their strongest point in history, as reflected in the numerous agreements, Memoranda of Understanding, and cooperation agreements signed across various areas of collaboration. These ties have solidified into exemplary strategic relationships, making the two countries first-rate partners and allies.
In this regard, Ambassador Carolin Konther López expressed her satisfaction and joy at the achievement of opening the Emirati market to poultry meat, as beef and lamb were also recently approved for this market, and she thanked the government of the United Arab Emirates for its constant support and for making projects that impact the development of the national industry a reality. She also highlighted the coordinated efforts with various Paraguayan government institutions, which made it possible to provide UAE authorities with all the necessary documentation to meet sanitary and technical requirements.
Trade Momentum Continues to Accelerate
The authorization for poultry exports comes amid rapidly growing trade ties between the two nations. According to official figures, non-oil trade between the UAE and Paraguay reached 249.2 million U.S. dollars in 2025, representing a 53.8% increase over 2024. This growth reflects the growing confidence among businesses in both countries and the success of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral economic relations.
As Paraguay continues to expand its access to the most prestigious international markets, the United Arab Emirates’ decision to authorize imports of poultry products further strengthens the country’s position as a trusted global supplier of high-quality agricultural products. It also consolidates the strategic partnership being forged between Asunción and Abu Dhabi, in which food security, investment, and sustainable trade are emerging as fundamental pillars of a relationship that continues to gain momentum.
