DP World Posorja Celebrates Seven Years of Operational Excellence in Ecuador
Seven years after the launch of the Deepwater Port in Posorja, DP World reflects with satisfaction upon its transformational journey, reaffirming its status as a leading terminal in Ecuador and the wider region. Since commencing operations in 2019, the strategically located terminal on the South Pacific Coast has moved more than 4 million TEUs and handled approximately 2,000 vessels, marking it as a pillar for Ecuador’s international trade.
According to Carlos Merino, “From our Deepwater Port in Posorja, we reaffirm our position as the leading terminal in the country and the region.” The terminal’s advantageous position has bridged Ecuador to crucial markets across the Americas, Europe, the Mediterranean, and Asia, recently enhanced by a new direct service, AX4 (also known as NW4). This connectivity has solidified Posorja’s status, with the World Bank ranking it as the most efficient port in the region and number 20 globally.
DP World’s commitment extends beyond operational excellence. The company maintains its role as the largest investor in Ecuador’s port history, upholding a successful public-private partnership with the Ecuadorian government. This model is recognized as one of the most outstanding success stories in Latin America, underpinning the port’s growth and the nation’s economic development.
Looking to the future, DP World Posorja is set for further expansion, with plans to extend the quay to 800 meters and increase operational capacity to 1.4 million TEUs by the end of 2026. These enhancements will advance both efficiency and competitive advantages for Ecuador’s exports, fortifying the country’s connectivity with global markets.
Carlos Merino expressed deep gratitude to DP World’s clients, authorities, strategic allies, and collaborators for their trust and support in strengthening Ecuador’s competitiveness and international integration. As DP World Posorja celebrates its seventh anniversary, it continues forward with the same conviction that fueled its inception—dedicated to building a future-ready port.
