Quito, Ecuador — The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding relations with Ecuador through the official visit of Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.

During his visit, Minister Al Olama held a series of high-level meetings with Ecuadorian government officials, including President Daniel Noboa at the Carondelet Presidential Palace and Foreign Minister Roberto Kury, as part of a broader agenda aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors.

The discussions focused on expanding collaboration in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, innovation, energy, telecommunications, mining, security, technology, and investment, reflecting the growing importance of the Ecuador–UAE partnership.

Following the meetings, Foreign Minister Roberto Kury confirmed that both countries have established sector-specific roadmaps and are advancing two landmark agreements: a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT). These initiatives are the result of approximately 18 months of joint technical and diplomatic work and are expected to further strengthen trade and investment flows between the two nations.

Minister Al Olama highlighted Ecuador’s strategic importance as a partner for the United Arab Emirates in Latin America, noting the longstanding relationship between the two countries in sectors including education, energy, gas, and oil. He also expressed confidence that the visit would pave the way for broader cooperation in emerging technologies and digital economic development.

The official program also included meetings with Ecuadorian ministers responsible for Defense, Economic Development, Environment and Energy, and Infrastructure and Technology, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the bilateral dialogue.

The visit marks another significant milestone in the growing relationship between the United Arab Emirates and Ecuador, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to fostering innovation, economic cooperation, and sustainable development through long-term strategic partnerships.
