Cemex UAE Partners with PowerChina for Sustainable Concrete Supply in Dubai

Dubai, September 16, 2024 — In a significant step toward a more sustainable future, Cemex UAE has recently inked a groundbreaking agreement with PowerChina International Group Limited. The collaboration aims to supply #Vertua lower-carbon concrete for the construction of the Phase 1 Independent Water Producer (IWP) project in Dubai.

Meeting Water Demands Sustainably

The IWP project is a critical component of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) comprehensive strategy. By increasing water desalination capacity and enhancing water supplies from sustainable sources, DEWA seeks to address the growing water demands of Dubai. This initiative aligns with several key strategies:

  1. Integrated Water Resources Management Strategy 2030: Dubai’s vision for efficient water management and conservation.
  2. Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050: A commitment to clean energy and sustainable practices.
  3. Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050: A bold goal to achieve carbon neutrality.

The Role of Cemex UAE

Cemex UAE, a leading provider of building materials, is proud to contribute to this transformative project. By supplying lower-carbon concrete, branded as #Vertua, Cemex ensures that construction activities align with environmental goals. The innovative concrete mix reduces the carbon footprint associated with traditional concrete production, making it an ideal choice for sustainable infrastructure.

Project Timeline

The IWP plant is scheduled to open its doors in 2026, marking a significant milestone in Dubai’s water infrastructure. Once fully operational in 2027, it will contribute substantially to meeting the city’s water needs while minimizing environmental impact.

About Cemex UAE:

Cemex UAE is a leading provider of high-quality building materials, committed to sustainable practices and innovative solutions. With a focus on environmental stewardship, Cemex UAE aims to shape a better future for the construction industry.
