Keiko Fujimori Elected President of Peru Amidst Narrow Victory

Lima, Peru – On June 29, 2026, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) announced the results of Peru’s presidential election, declaring Keiko Fujimori the new president by a narrow margin. Fujimori, representing the right-wing, bested her leftist rival, Roberto Sánchez, by a scant difference that underscores the country’s deep political divisions.

The final tally, with 100% of the ballots counted, showed Fujimori securing 50.13% of the vote, while Sánchez garnered 49.86%. This close contest was decided by just 49,641 votes, marking the third consecutive Peruvian presidential election resolved by such a tight margin.
