Strengthening Central American Ties: Guatemala and El Salvador Launch Joint Business Council in the UAE
In a significant step for regional cooperation and economic growth, Guatemala and El Salvador have announced the creation of a Joint Business Council in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in collaboration with the Dubai Chambers. This initiative aims to create a robust platform to promote trade, investment, and tourism between the two Central American nations and the Middle East.
The Council will connect entrepreneurs and companies from both regions, opening new doors for innovation, market access, and sustainable development. With strong leadership and a clear mission, this initiative marks an exciting chapter in Central America’s global engagement.
Providing key diplomatic backing to the initiative are H.E. Jorge Archila, Ambassador of Guatemala to the United Arab Emirates, and H.E. Gerardo Pérez, Ambassador of El Salvador to the United Arab Emirates. In addition, José Bassila has been elected as President of the Joint Business Council, assuming a central role in guiding the Council’s strategic vision and advancing bilateral and regional business cooperation.
During a recent productive meeting in Dubai, representatives from Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Dubai Chamber advanced the proposal to establish this council, with the intention to facilitate stronger connections between companies and entrepreneurs from both regions. The Council will serve as a dedicated platform for the private sectors to expand trade opportunities, attract new investments, and build lasting business partnerships with the UAE and broader regional partners.
Jose Bassila, who has been appointed as the President of the Business Council, stated:
“I am honored to take on the role of President of this Business Council, working closely with our Guatemalan and Salvadoran colleagues and the Dubai Chamber to ensure the Council becomes a dynamic bridge for Central America in the Middle East. This is an exciting step forward, one that will elevate the economic presence of both countries and create new channels for collaboration, innovation, and growth.”
The launch of this Council is expected to strengthen diplomacy between Central America and the UAE, while promoting activities like tourism and innovation. It also signals a clear commitment to building bridges—not just in business, but in cultural exchange and sustainable development.
With growing global interest in Central American markets and the UAE’s stature as a global business hub, this partnership represents a strategic opportunity to enhance economic ties and tap into new possibilities for collaboration and prosperity.
Key Highlights of the Initiative:
- Trade Expansion: Improving access for Central American businesses to the UAE market.
- Investment Attraction: Encouraging Emirati and Gulf investors to explore opportunities in Guatemala and El Salvador.
- Tourism Promotion: Showcasing the unique destinations and cultural experiences of both countries to travelers from the Middle East.
- Business Partnerships: Fostering long-term collaborations across sectors including technology, agriculture, and services.
By serving as a dynamic bridge between Central America and the Middle East, the new Guatemala–El Salvador Business Council in the UAE is poised to make a lasting impact, generating tangible benefits for businesses, governments, and communities on both sides.
