Strengthening Bilateral Ties: The Dominican Republic and Saudi Arabia Explore New Avenues for Cooperation

In a significant step toward strengthening international relations and economic cooperation, the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrein, and Djibouti recently facilitated a high-level meeting at the Asharqia Chamber of Commerce in Dammam, the capital of Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. The meeting brought together Ambassador Andy Rodríguez Durán and Mr. Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Faraj, Chairman of the Board of the Asharqia Chamber, along with several key executives from one of the Kingdom’s most prominent business institutions.

During the session, Ambassador Rodríguez Durán presented the Dominican Republic as a strategic investment and trade hub connecting the Caribbean and the Americas. He highlighted the country’s competitive advantages, pointing to the robust free trade zone regime, an extensive network of trade agreements—including DR-CAFTA and the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union—which together grant direct access to major markets in North America, Latin America, and Europe.

In the course of the discussion, Mr. Al-Faraj emphasized the interest of the regional private sector in exploring opportunities with the Dominican Republic, particularly within priority sectors such as tourism and real estate development, agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics, mining, and renewable energy.

The dialogue led to the identification of concrete mechanisms for cooperation, including:

  • Bilateral business missions
  • Attracting Saudi investment to the Dominican Republic
  • Organizing a Dominican-Saudi business forum in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province
  • Exchanging trade information and market intelligence

Both parties agreed to initiate steps to foster closer ties between the Asharqia Chamber and business associations from the Dominican Republic. In addition, they discussed the feasibility of organizing a Saudi business mission to the Dominican Republic in the near future.

Ambassador Rodríguez Durán was accompanied by Minister-Counselor Gustavo Rosa from the diplomatic mission, further underscoring the event’s importance for #MIREXRD, #LuisAbinader, #PresidenciaRD, #ComunicacionesDO, and #KSA.

This meeting marks a pivotal advancement toward deepening economic and diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, opening new doors for trade, investment, and shared prosperity.
