TRENDS Research & Advisory and the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI) convened a significant joint discussion in Abu Dhabi to further global research dialogue and broaden avenues for knowledge-based cooperation. The high-level meeting brought together experts and researchers to deliberate on critical issues in academic research, artificial intelligence (AI) applications, and the expansion of partnerships and expertise exchange among international think tanks.

The TRENDS delegation was headed by Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS, alongside several researchers from the institution. Leading the CARI delegation was its President, Dr. Francisco Santibañes. The session facilitated a dynamic exchange of insights on the swift changes altering the global research landscape, the escalating significance of AI in strategic studies, data analysis, policymaking, and the crucial ethical and regulatory challenges that accompany the integration of advanced technologies in research and intellectual processes.

During the discussions, Dr. Al-Ali emphasized the necessity of cultivating “robust research partnerships capable of producing in-depth knowledge that responds to accelerating geopolitical and technological shifts.” He pointed out that AI has become a pivotal tool in enhancing research quality and efficiency, but stressed that these advances must operate within “clear scientific and ethical frameworks.”

Dr. Santibañes likewise underscored the “value of strengthening cooperation between think tanks in Latin America and the Arab world,” asserting that the exchange of research expertise and the integration of varying perspectives foster a deeper understanding of shared international issues and pave the way for novel collaboration in strategic studies and international relations.

Participants explored practical experiences in deploying AI for futures studies, public opinion analysis, and decision-making support. The session also included presentations on select collaborative research projects initiated by TRENDS with international partners, highlighting the tangible outcomes of such cross-border cooperation.

The sustained dialogue between TRENDS and CARI champions the growing need for global think tanks to harness technological innovations and collaborative research models, ultimately contributing to more responsive and informed primary research in a rapidly evolving world.
