Vilay – Plant-Based Innovation from Chile

Vilay is a leading Chilean company specializing in plant-based food innovation, recognized for developing high-quality, great-tasting alternatives aligned with evolving global consumer trends. Built on a real family need, Vilay has grown into a trusted brand present in more than 10 countries across the Americas, offering reliable, innovative, and accessible plant-based solutions.

With a diversified portfolio that includes plant-based beverages, creams, dairy-free dulce de leche, and ready-to-drink products, Vilay positions itself as a relevant and forward-thinking player within the plant-based segment, combining innovation, consumer closeness, and strong value propositions.

This interview features Vilay’s Founder & CEO, Jorge Kuncar, who shares insights into the company’s plant-based innovation strategy, international expansion, and growth opportunities in global markets.

Could you introduce Vilay and its plant-based product line?

Vilay is a Chilean company primarily focused on innovation in plant-based foods. We were born from a real family need and, over time, have consolidated ourselves as a concrete solution for thousands of families in more than 10 countries across the Americas.

Today, we offer a diverse portfolio that includes plant-based beverages, plant-based creams, dairy-free dulce de leche, and new ready-to-drink beverage proposals. We are characterized by our close connection with consumers and our ability to offer alternatives across multiple categories, positioning ourselves as a relevant and reliable player within the plant-based segment.

What makes your plant-based beverages competitive in international markets?

Vilay is much more than a plant-based beverage brand. We are specialists in plant-based solutions, with experience not only in beverages, but also in creams and in the development of the first plant-based dulce de leche in our category.

Our competitiveness is based on a key combination: a wide product range, high quality standards, and carefully developed formulas that balance taste, functionality, and price. This allows us to offer excellent value for money and to adapt solidly to different international markets.

How do you adapt flavors and formats for different markets?

We have a deep understanding of the plant-based category and a clear insight into what consumers are looking for in each market. This knowledge allows us to develop relevant products from the very beginning.

At the same time, we have the flexibility to adapt flavors, formats, and presentations when markets require it, always maintaining brand identity, product quality, and a consistent consumer experience.

What trends are driving demand for dairy alternatives?

The demand for dairy alternatives reflects a structural shift in consumer behavior. Today, growth in the plant-based category is no longer driven solely by vegan consumers, but by a much broader and more diverse audience willing to explore new products and flavors.

We see consumers who want to reduce dairy consumption, people with lactose intolerance, and profiles that prioritize healthier, functional, and versatile options suited to different consumption occasions. This trend is driven by a search for balance: plant-based products with excellent taste and practicality that fit naturally into everyday life, regardless of lifestyle.

How strategic is the Gulf region for Vilay’s growth?

The Gulf region is highly strategic for Vilay, as it serves as a gateway to both the Middle East and North and Northeast Africa. In the Middle East, healthy eating has been a consolidated trend for several years, although concentrated among a limited number of key players.

This represents a strong opportunity for us. We bring experience, quality, competitive pricing, and an innovative and differentiated portfolio. Our goal is to identify the right strategic partners in these markets to reach the end consumer effectively and to build a strong and sustainable presence across the region.
