Fruteec: Jean Pierre Escobar

Part of the Fruteec Group, with more than 12 years of experience in international trade, Fruteec Chile has been focused on the production and export of dried fruits since 2019. Backed by the group’s global market know-how, the company has rapidly positioned itself as a reliable supplier, combining efficient operations with a strong export-driven mindset. In this interview, Jean Pierre Escobar shares Fruteec Chile’s vision, its development in international markets, and the key factors behind its growing presence in the global dried fruit industry.

Could you introduce Fruteec Chile and its specialization in dried plums?
Fruteec is a young company with a presence in global markets and currently ranks fourth among Chile’s exporters worldwide. Our highest-volume product is dried plums, and we have been market leaders in China for the past four years—the destination with the largest export volume from Chile. In addition, we operate in 17 countries, with Europe standing out as our largest market. Beyond plums, we also export raisins and concentrated juices.

What is the difference between conventional, tenderized, and pitted plums?
Conventional plums are those treated with pesticides to protect the fruit; this is the main difference compared to organic plums. Chile produces only about 400 tons of organic plums, so conventional plums account for the majority of commercialization. “Tenderized” refers to the process through which plums gain moisture and texture, becoming a ready-to-eat product. During this process, the fruit is sterilized to ensure consumer safety. Within this category, there are two types: tenderized pitted plums (where the pit is mechanically removed) and tenderized plums with pit.

How is plum juice concentrate positioned in global markets?
Plum juice concentrate has broad demand. The main markets are China, the United States, and South Korea, where we have a presence. While demand growth is not particularly strong, it is a very stable market.

What advantages does Chile offer for plum production?
Chile offers unique characteristics for plum production. Its climate and phytosanitary barriers make it a key country for the development and production of this fruit compared to others.

What opportunities are you looking to develop at Gulfood 2026?
To strengthen our presence in the region and capture more opportunities and clients.
