Groundbreaking Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence Launched in Brazil
In a historic collaboration aimed at enhancing cybersecurity in Latin America, EDGE Group, an advanced technology and defence company based in the UAE, has partnered with the Brazilian Army’s Cyber Defence Command (ComDCiber) to establish a Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (COE). This pioneering institution, noted for its unique tripartite model integrating government, industry, and academia, promises to be the first of its kind in the region.
This ambitious initiative signifies a strategic alliance with both founding partners committing to a formidable, internationally benchmarked organization. Their direct investments underscore an unwavering dedication to its operational prowess, institutional autonomy, and sustained longevity. The center aims to address Brazil’s cybersecurity requirements while extending its impact across the entire region.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE, highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts, saying, “Cyber resilience demands long-term collaboration between governments, industry and academia, and this partnership reflects that belief. EDGE brings a proven track record in delivering sovereign cyber capabilities across complex, high-stakes environments, and we are drawing on that depth of experience to support Brazil’s ambitions.”
The COE will cater to all the Brazilian Armed Forces and federal institutions, offering services in professional training, development and certification, cyber incident response, and digital forensics. It will also provide strategic cybersecurity advisory services, research and development of cyber defence doctrine, and capabilities to plan and execute national and regional exercises. This initiative is designed to bolster cyber defence capabilities and deliver advanced cyber solutions.
Modeled on international best practices, like those of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, the center aspires to establish Brazil as a regional stronghold of sovereign cybersecurity prowess. The COE will also seek affiliation, cooperation, and recognition with global cybersecurity entities, reinforcing Brazil’s standing in the international cybersecurity community.
By securing this vital partnership, the Brazilian Army and EDGE Group not only propel Brazil into a new era of cybersecurity excellence but also pave the way for substantial advancements in Latin America’s cyber capabilities.
