Argentina Signs Historic LNG Deal with SEFE Securing Energy for Europe GmbH
In a landmark development for the energy sector, SOUTHERN energy LNG has reached an agreement with SEFE Securing Energy for Europe GmbH for the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) sale contract ever executed by Argentina. The deal involves the sale of 2 million tons of LNG per year over a period of 8 years, starting in 2027, strengthening Argentina’s position as a new global supplier in the rapidly evolving LNG market.
The signing ceremony, held in Berlin, was attended by key industry figures. Among them were Rodolfo Freyre, President of SESA; Frédéric Barnaud, CCO of SEFE; Marcos Bulgheroni, Group CEO of Pan American Energy; Martin Rueda, General Director of Harbour Energy and Director of SESA; Patricio Da Ré, Project Integration Director of YPF SA and Director of SESA; Karl Staubo, CEO of Golar LNG; Federico Petersen, CCO of Golar LNG and Director of SESA; and Matías Lacabanne, CCO of SESA. The event was also graced by Betina Pasquali de Fonseca, the Argentine Ambassador to Germany.
Representing SEFE at the event were Dr. Egbert Laege, CEO; Doris Honold, Supervisory Board member; Jean-Manuel Conil-Lacoste, EVP LNG; and Sharif Islam, VP LNG Origination – Atlantic.
This agreement not only represents a milestone for SOUTHERN energy LNG but also validates Argentina’s emergence as a key energy supplier to international markets. Backed by major players including Pan American Energy, YPF SA, Pampa Energía, Harbour Energy, and Golar LNG, the contract signals robust cooperation and integration throughout the country’s energy value chain.
The new partnership with SEFE is expected to drive substantial growth in Argentina’s LNG export capacity, create opportunities for local industry, and support global efforts towards energy security and diversification.
