His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, recently hosted His Excellency Alexandre Silveira, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, to discuss avenues for deepening economic ties between the two nations.
The discussions centered on expanding collaboration in key sectors such as energy and mineral exploration. Both sides emphasized the importance of fostering strategic partnerships, sharing expertise, and leveraging advanced technologies to drive sustainable development and economic prosperity in the UAE and Brazil.
Signing of a Landmark MoU
On the sidelines of the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UAE and Brazil. The agreement aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in energy investments, mineral exploration, and other priority areas. The MoU was signed by His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and His Excellency Alexandre Silveira, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy.
This landmark agreement builds on the outcomes of Sheikh Khaled’s official visit to Brazil in November 2023, during which he met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. That visit laid the foundation for collaboration in clean energy, sustainable investments, and mineral exploration—fields that are now central to the new MoU.
Objectives of the Agreement
The MoU seeks to:
- Promote mutual investments in mineral exploration, development, processing, and marketing.
- Advance research and development initiatives and workforce training in technical fields.
- Strengthen collaboration in advanced technology and sustainability practices.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to building robust strategic relations with Brazil, particularly in the energy and mining sectors. He highlighted the importance of joint projects that drive innovation, sustainability, and mutual benefits, aligning with the shared vision of both nations for inclusive development.
Key Remarks from UAE and Brazil
His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, stated: “Our collaboration with Brazil underscores the strength of our bilateral partnership and our shared commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth. This MoU is a significant milestone in enhancing cooperation in the mining sector, supporting the energy transition, and adhering to world-class environmental, social, and governance practices. We are confident that this agreement will deepen ties between the UAE and Brazil across both public and private sectors for years to come.”
His Excellency Alexandre Silveira, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, added: “Brazil is proud to fortify its partnership with the UAE, reflecting our shared vision for advancing the energy transition. In an interconnected world, such collaborations are vital for responsible resource management and economic growth. This agreement is a step forward in driving progress and prosperity for both nations.”

Economic Ties Between the UAE and Brazil

This growing partnership underscores the shared commitment of both nations to advancing economic progress and fostering sustainable development through strategic collaboration.
