Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Strengthens UAE-Mexico Economic Ties with High-Level Meetings and New Partnerships

Mexico City, 19th June, 2025 – In a significant step towards deepening economic collaboration between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Mexico, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a landmark meeting with Marcelo Ebrard, the Secretary of Economy of Mexico, during his official visit to the Mexican capital.

Talks centered on the robust bilateral relations shared by the two nations, with both sides reviewing current ties and outlining avenues for greater cooperation in economic and investment sectors. Deliberations highlighted promising opportunities in pivotal areas such as energy, advanced technology, and food security.

As stated by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah, the UAE remains committed to strengthening its partnership with Mexico, aiming to foster lasting economic ties that advance mutual interests and support “comprehensive development and sustainable economic prosperity in both countries.”

The visit witnessed the formalization of several key agreements:

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UAE Ministry of Investment and the Secretariat of Economy of Mexico was signed by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy, focusing on enhanced investment cooperation.

  • A second MoU established the UAE-Mexican Business Council, a new platform to strengthen private sector dialogue and collaboration. The agreement was signed by Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs, and Sergio Contreras, Executive President of the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology.

  • Additionally, the two countries agreed on the terms of reference for negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This critical step was formalized by Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi and the Mexican Secretary of Economy, laying the groundwork for a future agreement that will further accelerate trade and investment flows.

The high-level meeting was also attended by Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade; Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs; and Salem Rashed Alowais, UAE Ambassador to the United Mexican States.

The series of MoUs and the progression towards a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement underscore the mutual commitment of both nations to building a dynamic, future-focused relationship with substantial benefits for their economies and peoples.
