Since its founding in 2000, the Club Diplomático de Argentina (Argentine Diplomatic Club) has played a pivotal role in fostering relationships between diplomats, government representatives, and the business sector. What began as an initiative to create stronger diplomatic ties through sports and social events has now evolved into an international organization with a vast network of connections spanning embassies worldwide.
To gain deeper insight into the Diplomatic Club’s mission, achievements, and future vision, Latin & Gulf spoke with Juan Pablo Orellana, co-founder of the organization, who, alongside his brother Christian Orellana, has led the Club for over two decades.
Building Bridges Through Diplomacy and Networking
Latin & Gulf: The Argentine Diplomatic Club was founded in 2000. How did the idea originate?
Juan Pablo Orellana: At that time, my brother Christian and I ran a diplomatic publication, and we saw a unique opportunity to foster stronger ties among diplomats through sports and social activities. Our goal was to create an environment where members of different embassies could connect on a deeper level, beyond the formal diplomatic setting. Today, my brother and I continue to lead the Club, and we take great pride in its development.
25 Years of Strengthening Diplomatic Relations
Latin & Gulf: Looking back over the past 25 years, how do you evaluate the Club’s impact?
Juan Pablo Orellana: We are extremely satisfied with the work we have done. The Argentine Diplomatic Club has become one of the longest-standing organizations in its field. Over the years, we have welcomed diplomats from every embassy accredited in Argentina, helping them build lasting relationships. The success of our work is reflected in the many connections and collaborations that have emerged from our events.
A Powerful Global Network
Latin & Gulf: The Club has built an impressive network of relationships. What do you consider to be its greatest asset?
Juan Pablo Orellana: Without a doubt, our network of diplomatic and business connections is our most valuable asset. We maintain close ties with all 86 embassies in Argentina, as well as with hundreds of diplomats worldwide. A key part of our strategy has been to include diplomats, government representatives, and business leaders in all of our initiatives, ensuring that our events provide meaningful opportunities for collaboration.
Social & Sporting Events: The Club’s Core Strength
Latin & Gulf: Events are central to the Club’s activities. What are some of the most successful initiatives you have organized?
Juan Pablo Orellana: Our social and sporting events are at the heart of the Argentine Diplomatic Club. On the social side, we host themed embassy-sponsored galas at five-star hotels and private residences, as well as networking meetings where our extensive diplomatic and business contacts can explore trade and investment opportunities.
On the sports side, we organize Diplomatic Cups in tennis, padel, golf, table tennis, soccer, and chess, all of which have attracted strong participation from both diplomatic and business communities. These events provide a relaxed and engaging setting for building international relationships.
International Expansion & Future Plans
Latin & Gulf: What does the future hold for the Argentine Diplomatic Club?
Juan Pablo Orellana: This is where we are currently investing most of our efforts. We have already launched new branches in Basel (Switzerland), Madrid (Spain), and Miami (USA), and we are in advanced discussions to open five more locations. These international branches will promote business opportunities, networking, and collaboration among our members. Our goal is to expand our impact globally, creating a stronger bridge between diplomacy and business.
A Club That Goes Beyond Borders
For over two decades, the Argentine Diplomatic Club has served as a hub for diplomacy, business, and international cooperation. With exciting expansion plans and a commitment to fostering meaningful connections, the Club continues to strengthen its global presence.
As it embarks on its next phase, the Club Diplomático de Argentina remains dedicated to its core mission: bringing people together through dialogue, collaboration, and shared experiences.
